As I stood on the grounds of the defunct Annaberg plantation on Saint John in the Virgin Islands, I thought about the slaves who toiled and suffered beneath the tropical sun, clearing forest, terracing the hillsides and planting and harvesting the sugarcane. I wondered how they must have felt each day as they passed this exquisitily beautiful vista of the ocean below and the freedom that it implied. Did it provide hope or palliation or did those clear blue waters just seem to mock them? Please zoom in on image to see it closer to life size. While monitor and Web-preparation limitations obscure much richness of color and design, I feel certain that if you like what you see here you will be delighted by the final print. All prints are done archivally on Moab Entrada 100% cotton media using Epson Ultrachrome K3 pigments and the Giclée printing process, and are signed and numbered and include a certificate of authenticity. |
